Blog: Build your own Hangglider and Paraglider Winch

Design of battery
A winch is a quite tough task for a battery, as you can pull up to 20-30kW peak from the battery.
That means the power requirement is quite tough compared to the energy requirement.
Make sure you battery can handle the power.
Right now I’m building a winch with lead acid batteries, as that is the most easy but probably also the safest system.
JK-BMS is the best (DIY) BMS for lithium batteries on the market according to the videos on Offgrid-garage.com, but they only provide systems up to 72V, where 96V is more attractive when it comes to power.
96V is easy with lead-acid and you don’t need a lot capacity to achieve the power with AGM batteries.
